Dear all,
with apologies for the lack of announcing the meeting beforehand
(besides the previous minutes) and for the late distribution of minutes
now, please find below the chat transcript of the Education Committee
meeting n.51, held earlier today.
If you have any comments or change requests, please let me know.
We have not yet agreed on the next regular date and time for the next

tomorrow, Wed Sep 08, afternoon (CEST).
Best regards,
Frank

== 2. future ESAO sessions ==
[15:52] FrankLoebe: LV: proposals received so far:
"Boundaries and natural units"
I could present the concept of bona fide and fiat boundaries and review
the problems involved with this approach for demarcating natural units,
with examples from the life sciences, focussing on issues revolving
around granularity and frames of reference. I could then introduce an
alternative approach that focusses on the concept of causal unity.
(Lars Vogt)
[15:53] FrankLoebe: .
"The many philosophical faces of ontological realism"
Some applied ontologies explicitly adhere to a position named
ontological realism. In this presentation, I will locate ontological
realism within the landscape of the various forms of realism that have
been proposed in metaphysics and philosophy of science, among which
Platonic realism, Aristotelian realism, scientific realism, entity
realism and structural realism.
(Adrien Barton)
[15:58] FrankLoebe: RR: I've also been dealing with several topics
recently, including one similar to the second proposal. Thus I'd like to
discuss about that, at least.
[15:59] FrankLoebe: LV, FL: no content decisions right now, as time is
too short.
[16:01] FrankLoebe: LV: regarding the slots, those proposals may work on
a November session, e.g. on Nov 09 or Nov 16
[16:05] FrankLoebe: LV: please continue in writing via [iaoa-education],
with your views, a.o., on what to announce on Fri
[16:05] FrankLoebe: < session edns >
[16:05] Roberto Rovetto: Some of my topics, submitted in papers to
conferences/journals: clarifying key concepts such as realism vs.
conceptualism, types of realism; names for types of ontology;
harmonization; ethical aspects of ontology modeling and use
.
