[16:03] anonymous morphed into ES

[16:03] anonymous1 morphed into Robert Rovetto

[16:04] FrankLoebe: LV: for a wrap-up tomorrow (e.g. with Cassia), I'd
be available between 14:30-15:00

[16:05] FrankLoebe: < session starts >

[16:05] FrankLoebe: .
== 1. next ESAO webinar session (early Nov) ==
      a. fix key features
         1: confirm topics & speakers
         2: date?
         3: format?
      b. technical approach: options & choice
      c. task allocation

[16:10] FrankLoebe: < topic proposals added to the ESAO org. document
(new section) >

[16:13] FrankLoebe: RR comment on topic of "ontological realism":
* interested in that topic myself
* interested in perhaps a collaboration on that with A.Barton

[16:14] FrankLoebe: LV: we can have multiple sessions on the same topic

[16:28] FrankLoebe: < discussion on potential ways of a collaborative
approach for the realism-topic >

[16:30] FrankLoebe: RR: accompanying a talk on realism, a talk on
conceptualism would be appropriate, I think

[16:32] Robert Rovetto: Re:topic of onto realism...yes, given my past
paper submissions in which I recommended the need to clarify the type of
realism when mentioning it, i would like to collaborate on that
topic/presentaiton

[16:32] FrankLoebe: [action] [FL, LV] follow up on that, e.g., reporting
to Adrien

[16:33] FrankLoebe: [agreement] continue with these two topics

[16:35] FrankLoebe: LV: regarding dates, we had discussed Tuesday evenings

[16:35] FrankLoebe: FL: two options there would be 17:00 or 18:00 CEST

[16:37] FrankLoebe: LV, FL: duration considerations: let's plan for ca.
30 min talks and ca. 30 min discussion, i.e., going with a slot of 1h

[16:39] FrankLoebe: LV: regular slot could be first or second Tue of the
month, i.e.
* for Nov: 02 or 09
* for Dec: 07 or 14

[16:43] FrankLoebe: [action] [LV] check with the speakers on Nov 02 and
Nov 09

[16:43] FrankLoebe: RR: I have a conflict on Nov 02, so from my point of
view Nov 09 would be nice, due to my interest in the topic

[16:44] FrankLoebe: SL: maybe Nov 09 is better than

[16:46] FrankLoebe: FL: by "format" I meant a very broad reading, in
case we have any further ideas

[16:47] FrankLoebe: LV, FL: with different topics, it makes sense to
keep the discussion directly after each talk

[16:47] FrankLoebe: [action] [LV] ask the speakers for their preferred
approach between pre-recording and doing a live talk

[16:48] FrankLoebe: [agreement] speakers should be present for
live-discussion afterwards

[16:52] FrankLoebe: FL: when will do advertisement?

[16:53] FrankLoebe: FL: I'd propose asap after fixing speakers and date/time

[16:54] FrankLoebe: LV: besides [iaoa-member], we should go public via
website, Twitter etc. and possibly also via the participants of ESAO-LD

[16:54] FrankLoebe: [action] [FL] draft advertisement

[16:55] FrankLoebe: [action] [FL] handle distribution

[16:56] FrankLoebe: LV: not available from Oct 11-13 (possibly also 14
and/or 15)

[16:57] FrankLoebe: LV: I believe that CT can run again her Zoom webinar

[16:57] FrankLoebe: LV: video processing and post-processing remains open

[16:59] FrankLoebe: [action] clarify with CT her availability on Nov 09
and/or 02 (perhaps before checking with the speakers)

[16:59] FrankLoebe: ^ do that in a call tomorrow

[16:59] FrankLoebe: [action] [FL] check Zoom alternative via University
of Leipzig

[17:01] FrankLoebe: LV: I think that I'm able to run CT's Zoom session,
as well

[17:02] FrankLoebe: .
== 2. review of the ESAO Launch Day ==
      a. general comments?
      b. review of proposals from 'ESAO Future Group'
      c. gathering feedback from audience of ESAO-LD? (questionnaire?)

[17:07] FrankLoebe: < item 3. quick-info: videos of the ESAO-LD may be
post-processed at Uni Bolzano; we need a GDPR compliant release
agreement from the speakers >

[17:09] FrankLoebe: < resuming item 2. >

[17:10] FrankLoebe: RR: generally fine, with the impression that some
presentations focused a bit more on their own project than necessary;
for education, neutrality is desirable

[17:12] FrankLoebe: LV: I liked the quality, while the scope and level
of required expertise was sometimes fairly high

[17:13] FrankLoebe: RR: we should emphasize that aspect to the upcoming
speakers

[17:13] FrankLoebe: LV, FL: +1

[17:13] FrankLoebe: ^

[17:13] FrankLoebe: ^ +2 actually

[17:13] FrankLoebe: ^ +2 actually

[17:15] FrankLoebe: LV: I believe Todd Schneider reported that the
language used was sometimes overloaded with technical terminology that
was likely now yet known to the whole audience

[17:18] FrankLoebe: FL: Does anyone know Lars Vogt?

[17:18] FrankLoebe: (basically no)

[17:19] FrankLoebe: LV: I'd suggest that the alternative approach based
on causal unity shouldn't cover too much of the talk duration

[17:20] FrankLoebe: RR: I'd again recommend that talks should aim at a
neutral approach, i.e., preferably covering all positions given on a
specific topic

[17:22] FrankLoebe: LV: well, particular standpoints can be fine, but
should be made clear where they're located in the field

[17:23] FrankLoebe: < back to item 3. >

[17:25] FrankLoebe: OK: legal regulations in Europe are somewhat
complicated, but need to be looked at for archiving videos

[17:29] FrankLoebe: OK: regarding the 4 years, there seems to be a rule
requiring a date of when material will be deleted

[17:30] FrankLoebe: OK: we would be interested in indefinitely long
archiving

[17:32] FrankLoebe: LV: Is there a form of UniBZ for video releases?

[17:33] FrankLoebe: OK: the one available is not yet perfect; but I'll
be provided with a revised version at some point

[17:36] FrankLoebe: .
== on conference reviewing ==

[17:37] FrankLoebe: RR: I suggest the EduTC encourages improvements of
the reviewing processes in conferences in the AO field

[17:38] FrankLoebe: RR: others have expressed to me having made similar
experiences

[17:42] FrankLoebe: RR reporting on an email:
* over-emphasis on ontology reuse
* quality and tone of some of the reviews was bad

[17:43] FrankLoebe: RR: I see relevance for the EduTC by making clear
that certain methodologies are taken as mandatory (e.g., ontology reuse
should not be enforced)

[17:44] FrankLoebe: RR: also, people shouldn't be put down by the
wording of the reviews

[17:51] FrankLoebe: < discussion on views on those cases and how this
relates to the EduTC >

[17:57] FrankLoebe: RR: options for actions: IAOA could discourage (1)
language of condescending nature and (2) not push one's own
ontology/ies; certain false arguments could be identified (e.g.,
enforcing reuse no matter what)
RR: main point is to improve the situation for more fairness

[18:01] FrankLoebe: ES: in 2021, we had some guidelines for FOIS
reviewing for the first time.

[18:04] FrankLoebe: [action] [FL] take comments to the next EC meeting
