Till,

The DOL standard is developing very nicely.  I haven't been
participating in the telecons because I've been tied up with
many other projects, but I find it very impressive.

However, I'd just like to comment on the following point:

Everybody who has ever written a grammar of any complexity has
a version of EBNF that they prefer.  They all have a large
common overlap, but they all differ in enough details to make
them incompatible.

When I first started to use ISO EBNF, I also found the commas
annoying.  But I came to appreciate the generality and flexibility.

There's good reason for the ISO slogan:  "Standards should be built
on top of other standards."
