Subject: Proposal for Special Edition of Journal of Applied Ontology by
this SIG
Date: Mon, 06 Jul 2015 13:04:35 +0100
From: Mike Bennett <mbennett at hypercube.co.uk>
Organization: Hypercube Ltd.
To: IAOA SemanticWeb-AppliedOntology SIG
Everyone,
Last month we finalized the proposed wording of a "Call for Papers" for
the special edition that this SIG has been discussing for the Journal of
Applied Ontology.
Firstly my apologies, this was meant to go out mid June - I ended up in
the US for a couple of weeks and forgot to take the words with me.
However, I also discovered, almost by accident, that there is a more
detailed procedure we ought to follow in proposing such an issue, as
described on the following page:
http://www.iossubmissions.com/applied-ontology/content/propose-special-issue
So it's likely that the responses we were getting from the folks there,
were based on the assumption that we were aware of this page, which I
(at least) was not. Presumably the next step therefore is not to simply
send out the Call for Papers as we had agreed, but to submit it into
this process along with the other details. I think everything being
asked for here is stuff we have already figured out.
Meanwhile, below is the proposed Call for Papers wording, for members of
this SIG to consider and review. At today's meeting we will work out
what happens next and put that sequence of events into action. Note that
we have proposed a long time for proposals since we are looking for
research papers. I've kept the mid-month date so as to avoid year end.
I hope you can make today's call.
Best regards,
Mike Bennett
Call for Papers [DRAFT FOR REVIEW]
IAOA Journal of Applied Ontology Special Issue on the Role of Ontologies
in Linked Data, Big Data and Semantic Web Applications.
The IAOA Semantic Web Applied Ontology (SWAO) Special Interest Group
[http://www.iaoa.org/sig/swao/] welcomes the submission of papers
focusing on the role of ontologies in the areas of Linked Data, Big Data
and the Semantic Web. Our goal is to collect a diverse set of papers
concerned with the use of ontologies in support of these areas.
Types of submissions sought include:
Position papers
Practical examples
methodological treatments
research-oriented papers
We are looking for papers that address the challenge problems set out in
the 2014 Ontology Summit
[http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OntologySummit2014].
Expanding on the topics highlighted in the Ontology Summit 2014
Communique
[http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?OntologySummit2014_Communique],
submissions should be concerned with:
·The role that ontologies play (or can play) in Linked Data, Big Data
and Semantic Web Applications
·Engineering of ontologies to address integration and domain-specific
modeling issues
·Sharing and reuse of ontologies within and across application or domain
areas
·Automation and tooling in support of ontology development
Papers should be formatted and submitted according to the guidelines of
the IAOA Journal of Applied Ontology
[http://www.iossubmissions.com/applied-ontology/]. The guidelines are
found under the tab, "Submission of Manuscripts".
