Dear all,

Hope you are doing very well.

Local news concerning ISAO. As previously discussed with Frank, we 
understood that you would like to make a trip to the Etna. We got in 
touch with a local company organizing tours. The proposed tour is as 
follow: we reach by bus (from Catania) the Rifugio Sapienza 
<https://www.rifugiosapienza.com/> (at about 2000 mt). There we can 
visit the Crateri Silvestri 
<https://www.tripadvisor.it/Attraction_Review-g660767-d4358762-Reviews-Craters_Silvestri_of_Mount_Etna-Nicolosi_Province_of_Catania_Sicily.html> 
(extremely easy and short walk). Then:

- for those who wish, with a guide, we go for a hike to the Schiena 
dell'asino <https://www.unescoparcoetna.it/sentieri/schiena-dellasino/>. 
The difference in altitude is 600mt in 2.5km. It is an easy walk, 
although especially the first part is mainly uphill. The total duration 
round trip is about 2.5h. Anyway, for more precise technical 
information, we will ask to the guide, if we decide to go with it.

- for those who don't wish to hike, the area of Rifugio Sapienza offers 
various spots to spend a couple of hours, including a cable car 
<https://www.funiviaetna.com/> to reach about 3000mt of altitude. The 
cost of the cable car is 80 euro per person, and this will *not* be 
covered by the organization; each person will need to pay for it in place.

In the way back from the trip, we could stop in Zafferana Etnea

Costs:

- bus (from Catania to Etna/Zafferana, and back): 600 euro (--> we need 
to check the max capacity of the bus in terms of participants)
- guide for the hike: 180 euro
- dinner: about 25 euro

Misael Mongiovì (in cc) is the person who is locally coordinating ISAO. 
We can organize a meeting to discuss this and other matters related to 
the local organization (e.g., you need to tell us what you need: badges? 
gadgets? posters?).
