Dear all,

I haven't received any reply from you regarding proposals for the
next ESAO sessions of October and November.

You can still send that to me today :-) or, say, before the end
of the week.

On my end I gathered one proposal
for November, and "ideas" for December or later. This is of course
largely insufficient. Please motivate yourself and the people
around you!

Otherwise, we are collectively
failing to launch a proper series.

Best,

Dear Executive Council members and Education Technical Committee
members,

Our new ESAO (Educational Series on Applied Ontology) inititative
is proceeding well, you can see the programme of the launch event
here: https://esao2021.inf.unibz.it/

Please don't forget to click on the ESAO box when registering to
BOSK, in order to participate in this event, in presence or
virtually.

This launch event is meant to be the beginning of a series of
webinars, to offer a continuous education activity and to grow a
significant on-line library of educational material.

We aim right now at having one such webinar session every month,
with 1-3 talks per session. And it would be great to be in
position to announce at least a couple of next sessions at the
launch event.
But we still need some more time to implement the permanent call
and review process open to all. This is why we decided in the last
EduTC meeting to now turn to you, hoping to can get a quick answer
and solutions:

*
*

* -> Would you like to deliver an ESAO talk *(see below
the idea and requirements)*in October? or in November? On**which
topic *(give a title + a few lines to explain what is intended)*?*

* -> Do you know some confirmed *(post-doc)*researcher
in our core community that is willing to do so? *(Please check
ahead with them their availability for October or November and
their topic proposal.)

* I am collecting your replies by September 1rst, but the
earlier the better.**
*

*
*

We will then make a light review of what appears most suitable
(for these first editions), and check the temporal availabilty of
the speakers.
It would be great to establish a regular time-slot for the
webinars (e.g., second tuesday of the month at 18:00 CET/CEST), so
please also send suggestions on times that you see suitable.

Best,

Laure for the EduTC

== More information on ESAO and the talks ==

The key idea of ESAO is a combination of (1) an archive of
educational material and (2) a webinar series for presentation and
exchange on that material.

For (1), we aim at creating an archive of short (10-20 min),
self-contained units of educational material (videos, web-,
screen- and podcasts, among others) that is available to be
streamed on demand. Any such unit can originate from recording a
live session, but likewise it can be produced in any other
suitable way. The purpose is the material as such and making it
accessible.

Concerning (2), an accompanying webinar series shall present the
material and allow for personal interaction about its topics in a
variety of formats, e.g. as live presentation with subsequent
discussion, as question and answer sessions or panel discussions
on a few units together for further digestion (then expected to
have been “consumed” already), as well as further formats that may
be proposed.

The level of the talks should be introductory, i.e., suitable for
graduate students and novel participants from industry. In terms
of content, we perceive adequate topics to range from classical
foundational ontological issues (such as well-known ontological
choices and distinctions) over common theories and methods for
ontologies to application issues. Overall, we are open and look
forward to suggestions. (In any case, bear the short format in
mind.)
